Eunuchs for His Kingdom's Sake

I've oftentimes observed 'Christian leaders' who manhandle the members of Christ's "body," the believers who are His alone. I'd like to explain the implications of the usurpation of the Father's children, which make up Christ's "body," by such self-seeking leaders. I will explain the meaning of  Jesus' phrase "eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's  sake."

Matthew 19:12  "For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's  sake (meaning, for the realm of God). He that is able to receive it, let him receive it."

From the above Scripture we see that some men have "made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom (realm) of God's sake." What does this mean? Obviously, a eunuch is a neutered male who therefore cannot reproduce of himself. Spiritually, a eunuch has had his self-life (his self-seeking interest) dealt with by "the work of God" in his life (Phili. 2:13). The Father seeks those who would be eunuchs for His kingdom's sake. These He can trust with His "church, which is His body." Matt 19:12 concerns His hope for "eunuchs" to lead Israel, His betrothed.

The Lord's Eunuchs will be as midwives for Christ, who aid the masculine and governing seed (Christ), being formed in every believer, the members of "His body." True Eunuchs today do not 'use' the Lord's people, the members of "His body," possessing them for themselves," satisfying their lustful self-interest. True Eunuchs are those who serve the members of His body without adulation in hopes of satisfying their flesh.

I've witnessed many Christian leaders who have actually had something of the Lord in that they attract followers, but then they seek to hold and reproduce themselves in their followers. They have a mixed motive – they do love the Lord, but they also love themselves, their ministry, reputation, and position, and the adulation of men. They may subtly insist that you need to see and experience what I have seen and experienced. Of course true spiritual seeing comes only by divine revelation to the individual body members. So, such insistence of conformity would ignore the will and Lordship of Christ operating in the life of every rebirthed child of God.

These leaders usually have their own affiliated or unaffiliated group, ministry or "church," in which they are the unquestioned leader or head. They often take a differentiating name for their sect, group, or "church name," thereby saying, "We are the only ones who see this or teach this truth or practice according to the truth." This make them exclusive in possessing an organization of their own, which they control, perhaps even without 'official membership' but tightly held by peer expectations. These are not eunuchs. These are ones who misuse and abuse Christ's "body." They use the Christ body members to create something in their own image. This becomes very obvious when control of speech and thought is suggested... by word or peer pressure. They may cultivate of a sense of exclusivity; "We've got it and nobody else has it" is part of that control, to lock people in. This was the root psychological mechanism at work in Jim Jones' at Jonestown, Guyana.

A man or woman who has not yet yielded to the dealing of the Lord in their self-life is as dangerous and as potentially evil as an unregenerate person. The evil intent that may flow from an unregenerate person and that of an unyielded Christian can be identical... all then is of 'self.' Thus we see that the works of men's hands are those that are controlled and manipulated by use of the same means as the world. This is in stark contrast to the approach of the Apostle Paul.

1 Cor. 2:1-5 "And I, brethren, when I (Paul) came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God."

Such wayward Christian leaders will manipulate the presentation of Scripture and also apply soulish manipulation to win the loyalty of the members, "tickling their ears." This may include everything from joke and story telling from the podium in place of preaching the truth, to flattery of individual members. This all leads to inappropriate soulish bonding that is void of the Spirit, a false basis for unity. Genuine oneness is that we are in fact one in Christ's universal body, regardless of some holding differences in understanding.

Sadly,  in many cases once members are gained or added, by whatever means, the member may be held or locked in by the following powerful psychological  mechanisms.

  1. The pseudo "family" syndrome that comes by creating a group culture is a strong soulish glue to hold members. The problem is that this kind 'family' is more often a sect, excluding others of the one "body of Christ" by holding to a culture of "we have the truth, they don't have it."
  2. Usually the leaders of such Christian, non-eunuch, sects subtly imply that any thought or teaching, other than that which is taught in the sect or acceptable to the leader, is to be feared as error and very dangerous – and definitely should not be permitted to be voiced. This line may extend to discouraging members from hearing other Christian speakers or reading books from outside those accepted by the group  – the group counsel becomes "just stick with our message and you will be okay." This all serves to cultivate an ingrown culture that essentially puts God in a box, controlled by one or a very few men. This freezes out revelation to the individual child of God unless it fits and supports the group message. The reason for this is so the leaders may control thought so as to possess these members of the group as there own, to fulfill the leader's vision; and perhaps make an income in the process. These leaders, just as every independent lawless self, want to be somebody in himself or herself, and that self is bolstered when even a small group is committed to follow the leader as His or her "possession".
  3. Fear of spiritual "error" is a very powerful tool by which members may be held captive to the non-eunuch leader. Actually, the born-again believer has nothing to fear from any outside input or understandings that may differ. We each see according to the revelation we've personally received from Him. Every child of God is safely held in the Father's hands and so needs not to be concerned for a fatal error by what he hears or reads. We all should learn, listen and read by the sense and guidance of His life as He governs and leads us from within by an inner sense knowing every Christian has from the moment of rebirth. Each one of us has the Holy One, Christ Spirit abiding within their spirit (Rom 8:9b) to teach them (1John 2:20, 27). He is their internal arbiter of all the things we may hear, read or do. What man eats fish not knowing to spit out the bones? If what we hear does not meet with the affirming inner spirit sense, then we should reject it.

What comes into us is not the issue, as we see in the following verse. Matthew 15:11 "Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man." Paul makes it clear that our Father is using ALL things, all experiences that come into our lives, all that we hear and do – the good and bad in our lives are all useful for our eternal good (Rom 8:28). We learn Christ and gain by our suffering failures - so what's to fear (Heb. 5:8)? Can we trust our Father?

I contend that what we believed before we were saved was not a help or hindrance in His saving us. Our salvation was solely the result of God's work in our life. The Father is not limited by our misunderstandings but He must make us needy and break through the darkness of our self-sufficiency. All of us are saved with our soul's mind untouched until His later work in us... He is working in us to will and to do but "renewing our mind(set)" (Philipp 2:5). It was God's work to regenerate us in our spirit to save us when we, as self-dependent ones, at last said, "Yes Lord;" admitting at least a degree of neediness sufficient that we would receive His salvation in Christ. Thus, receiving of Him came as result of our recognition of our neediness.

Paul said that this same receptivity is how we should also continue our walk in Him. Col. 2:6 "As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord (by God's grace), so walk ye in him (by His grace)" The admittedly needy are ones who have been and are being or dealt with in terms of their self-love are being stripped of their self-godhood and "dead good works." These then are eunuchs made by yielding to the circumcision that is of God, not made with hands.  These seek not for themselves but for others – they genuinely love the brethren. Paul recommended Timothy to the Philippians, saying he (Paul) had nobody else to send since everybody else sought only for themselves and not the things that are Christ's. Philip. 2:21 "...all seek their own, NOT the things which are Jesus Christ's." <End>
