This Article is part of a multi-part Study Series called The "At Rest" Christian.

These below are some of the riches that flow from Christ as He now is, in His Resurrected Spirit form indwelling every believer’s spirit.

  • Christ is the “new garment” of the fulled (whitened), processed “new cloth, that clothed us with Jesus Christ’s righteousness. Thus, we “rest” in His accomplished workfor us.
  • Upon believing, every believer has been baptized (set) into the “One body” of Christ (1Cor. 12:13), there they may rest in union with Christ.
  • Christ is ever-present within us as the “new wine,” as “the Spirit of life” who enlivens our spirit.
  • With Christ’s all-sufficient resurrected “Spirit of life” we also have the His Spirit as the “new wineskin.” This is… His Spirit within us works to govern, guide, regulate, and enable us… that we might glorify Him… as we simply live and move in union with Him, expressing all that He is in our daily living... while we yet line in this fallen world today.

Below I list these rest producing points of understanding for being … an “At Rest” Christian.

1. We’ve believed and now know God now as our Father and that we are His literal children.

“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:” (Romans 8:16)

To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he (Jesus) hath made us accepted in the beloved.” (Eph. 1:6)

Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and Your Father; and to my God, and your God.” (John 20:17)

“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:” (Romans 8:16)

“To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.” (Ephes. 1:6)

what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God (1Jn. 3:1)

2. We’ve turned from our performance under “the Law,” to trust only in “the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.”

We know of this pitfall: “…the strength (dunamis, power) of sin is The Law.” (1 Cor. 15:56b)

And thatwe are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.” (Romans 6:15)

Christ cross was “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances (law) that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;” (Col. 2:14)

We are thus cautioned; “But even unto this day, when Moses (the law) is read, the vail (flesh) is upon their heart. 16Nevertheless when it (the heart) shall turn to the Lord, the vail (cf., Heb. 10:20 vail is flesh) shall be taken away (Gk. periairio, unveiled). Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (2 Cor. 3:15-18)

3. We now Know His Love and our salvation is Unconditional and independent of our works both before and after our salvation. We know we can and must “cease from our own works” in order to “rest” in Him. Our only labor is to turn our heart to Him within, in humility and utter dependence upon Him.

“Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his REST any of you should seem to come short of it. For we which have believed do enter into REST, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my REST: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. And in this place again, If they shall enter into my REST. Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For HE THAT IS ENTERED INTO HIS REST, HE ALSO HATH CEASED FROM HIS OWN WORKS, as God did from his. Let us labour (be diligent) therefore to enter into that REST...(Hebrews 4:1, 2-3, 5-6, 9-12)

4. We are Spiritually Minded unto ‘the eternal,’ considering that what is seen is only transitory.

“While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (2 Cor. 4:18)

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:” (Eph. 1:3)

“And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:” (Eph. 2:6)

5. We “rest” in the fact that “all things (situations and circumstances) are working together for the good.”

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” (Romans 8:28-29)

“Being confident of this very thing, that he (The Lord) which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ (at the Rapture):(Philippians 1:6)
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:13)

6. Our resting requires amutual abiding’’; Christ forever abides in us (Col 1:27b), but we need to abide our soul union with Him, submitting to Him in our spirit.

“Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph IN Christ,” (2 Cor. 2:14a)

“These things I have spoken unto you, that IN ME ye might have peace. In the world (outer) ye shall have tribulation (pressure): but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke (for control) is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:29-30)

7. We know that we should “Not trust in ourselves…but in God.”

“But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:” (2 Cor. 1:8)

8. We rest in His finished work of justification, redemption, and reconciliation, and also in His ongoing work and in sanctifying our souls.

“For it became him (God), for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through (Christ’s) sufferings.” (Hebrews 2:10)

“Therefore, there is Now No Condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus…” (Romans 8:1)

“Being confident of this very thing, that HE which hath begun a good work IN YOU will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:” (Philippians 1:6)

“For it is God which worketh IN YOU both to will and to do of his good pleasure. (Philippians 2:13)

9. Knowing Him and being confident in His work, we “walk” in accord with His Indwelling Spirit.

“… Walk in (accord with) the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. (Galatians 5:16)
“But if (since) ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.” (Galatians 5:18)
“If (since) we live (have life) in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:25)

  1. 10. We enjoy our Rest in Christ so long as our Soul abides in Union with Christ in our spirit.

1 Corinthians 6:17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.
“These things I have spoken unto you, that IN ME ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation (pressure): but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
(John 16:33)

“Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph IN Christ, (2 Cor. 2:14a)

But I say, Walk in [the] Spirit, and ye shall no way fulfil the flesh's lust.”
“If (since) we live by the Spirit, let us walk also by the Spirit.”
(Galatians 5:16, 25 (Darby)

  1. 11. We Know His Love Is Unconditional and Independent of Our Works

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

  1. 12. We are “Spiritually Minded” – Considering that what is seen is only transitory.

“While we look NOT at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (2 Cor. 4:18)

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:” (Ephes. 1:3)

“And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:” (Ephes. 2:6)

  1. 13. We “rest” in our eternal “blessed hope” as our “confident expectation” of Rapture to dwell with and co-reign Christ “eternal in the heavens” (2Cor 5:1b).

Looking for that Blessed Hope, the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ (Tit.2:13)

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” (1Thes. 4:17-18)

“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” (1 Corinthians 15:51-52)

...we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle (mortal body, cf., v4-7) were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house (a spirit body) not made with hands, Eternal In The Heavens.” (2 Cor. 5:1)

Thus, we conclude this series, having come to Rest In Him. How I thank God for His consistency and love to bring us to ‘rest in Christ’ … even as we look to that day in which we will be resurrected, dead or alive, meeting Him in the air to go home and dwell with Him “eternal in the heavens” (2Cor 5:1).
