Part 9 of 15 – Anointing God’s Living Temple

This Article is part of a multi-part Study Series called Two Kinds Of Knowledge.

The Old Testament Temple and its “vessels” were sanctified by the anointing with the Holy Ointment.

Exodus 30:26-31 And thou shalt anoint the tabernacle of the congregation therewith, and the ark of the testimony, And the table and all his vessels, and the candlestick and his vessels, and the altar of incense, And the altar of burnt offering with all his vessels, and the laver and his foot. And thou shalt sanctify them, that they may be most holy: whatsoever toucheth them shall be holy (set apart). And thou shalt anoint Aaron and his sons (Priest), and consecrate them, that they may minister unto me in the priest's office. And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, This shall be an holy anointing oil unto me throughout your generations.

Today, we are, together and individually, God’s LIVING TEMPLE. 2 Cor. 6:16 … for ye are the temple of the living GodThis “temple” is living because it is also likened to a body – “the body of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 12:18-20 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. 19 And if they were all one member, where were the body? 20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.

The ointment of Christ’s Spirit who has come within sets us apart as His vessels…as His Living Temple. The “spiritual sense knowing” that we thereby have within us “sets us apart” or sanctifies us, as He guides us in our daily living. By the sense of His life we are guided in what we touch, view, taste, do, and say. First, the inner sense makes us to know we are different. Then, the inner sense we have by the indwelling of His Spirit sanctifies us as we learn to walk according to the Spirit. We are sanctified (set apart) by our willing obedience to that sense knowing.

We have seen that there are at least two kinds of knowledge in the Christian. The 1st kind of knowing, eido comes to the believer as the spontaneous sense of Christ’s Spirit life in our spirit. The 2nd knowing, ginosko, comes to us as a learned understanding. It is often the result of when God uses the circumstances of life to push us to abandon ourselves, to let go and obey the intuitive sense knowing. This experience then brings us to know His life within and salvation, experientially. You see, when we try to follow the intuitive sense we either, experience Christ’s life, by an abiding peace within; or if we shun the voice or intuitive sense of Christ within, we then sense a disquieting within or even inner pain…and sometimes … we must endure the consequences of our independent choices. In this way we also learn Christ through our failures. Nothing is wasted of our lives as we learn to walk with Him.
