Jesus Clearly Claims He is God

Some, have asked, “Where does Jesus of Nazareth claim that He was God?”

The Lord Jesus told us He is God in so many places they are hard to count.

One emphatic declaration is in John 8:24, where He declares He is The "I AM."

24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. John 8:24 (KJV)

He uses the same words as seen in Exodus 3:14, where God told Moses Who He Is and that He should be called "I AM."

14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. Exodus 3:14 (KJV)

Also, note that in John 8:24 where The Lord uses the name "I AM," the KJV Authorized Version supplies an erroneous "he" in italics, which indicates the word “he” is NOT in the original manuscripts. So the verse should read;

24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am, ye shall die in your sins.

We know the O.T. is written in Hebrew, but the Greek O.T., known as the Septuagint or LXX, uses the exact same Greek words in Exodus 3:14. The Lord Jesus and The Twelve Apostles referenced the LXX and did not argue with its validity.

So John 8:24 should be enough to settle the matter, but The Lord Jesus also uses this term of Himself again here in John 8:28 and again in the most emphatic way of all in John 8:58, where He declares;

"Before Abraham was, I AM." Read the entire section to understand the importance of believing that Christ Jesus is God.

The Lord Jesus tells us He is God every time He proclaims, or someone else proclaims that Jesus Christ is “The Son of God.” For God's Son would, in essence, and Truth, must be God, see John 10:36-38 and many other Scriptures.

36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? 37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. 38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him. John 10:36-38 (KJV)

Every attribute of God is also attributed to Jesus Christ in Scripture. So where is the difficulty? Jesus Christ is “the Son of God.”

15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. 1 John 4:15 (KJV)

There is no lack of proof but there is a great lack of belief, which also was Israel's trouble.

As for Scripture references, look at these below; Isaiah 9:6-7, John 1:18, John 5:18-27, John 10:30-38, John 20:28, Eph 3:9, and many others.

6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. Isaiah 9:6-7 (KJV)

18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. John 1:18 (KJV)

18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. 19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. 20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel. 21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will. 22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: 23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him. 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. 25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. 26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; 27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is [humanly] the Son of man. John 5:18-27 (KJV)

30 I and my Father are one. 31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. 32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? 33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. 34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? 35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; 36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? 37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. 38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him. John 10:30-38 (KJV)

28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. John 20:28 (KJV)

9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: Ephesians 3:9 (KJV)
