Spiritual Blindness

We have an invisible enemy of our soul whose desire is to destroy us for eternity.

“…we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world [Grk. aion, age], against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Eph. 6:12

Everyone is born knowing deep down that God is real, why else has men through the ages made idols and symbols referring to a god.’ Yet, due to Satan’s lies of deception they assume themselves to be ‘the god of their own lives.’ This is idolatry at its worst. The liberal/leftist ideology says man is basically good, but this is not true; man is fallen with a sin-nature the Bible refers to as “Sin in the flesh” (Rom. 8:3b), here ‘Sin’ is a noun, not a verb, it’s the ‘sin nature.’ Sin in man’s flesh is inherent, passed on virally from Adam to all of us,

7 Because the carnal mind [fleshly mindset] is enmity [hostile] against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. Rom 8:7-8

Thus, the vast majority people today reject the idea of having faith in the Lord Jesus Christ because they refuse to submit to Him as the Sovereign Lord. Satan comes into the picture working to ‘blind the minds’ of nonbelievers so that they won’t come to the “knowledge of the truth” of Christ” – who by His Cross-work “for the sins of the world” has Freely Provided Forgiveness of All Their Sins.

Christ, crucified for all men, is the liberating secret for all who will believe to receive Jesus as Savior. The fact is that Jesus came in to this dark and dying world that crucified Him, as “the light of the world”!

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word [Jesus Christ] was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life [spirit-life]; and the life was The Light of Men…. 9 That was the True Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world [with a conscience]” John 1:1-4, 9 (KJV)

Jesus is “the light” while Satan’s realm as “the god of this world” is ‘darkness.’ When Scripture talks about ‘darkness’ it refers to ‘the absence of God.” For believers, darkness indicates one is taking a path outside of the will of the Lord for themthus we are to “walk in the light as He is in the light.”

“…we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world [Grk. aion, age], against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Eph. 6:12

Spiritually blinded people are living in the darkness of Satan’s lies. This applies to the vast majority of humanity today, as it has been in all ages. Thus, they are blinded and cannot understand the gospel or biblical things. They can’t see spiritually because as Paul tells us;

“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” 2 Corinthians 4:6 (KJV)

“But the natural [soulish self-consumed] man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” 1 Cor. 2:14

They are blind and they can’t see that they’re on the path that leads to “everlasting destruction(2Thes. 1:9). If they had light they would turn to the other direction. They live with a vail over their heart’s eyes.

“Nevertheless when it [the heart, cf. v15] shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.” 2 Corinthians 3:16 (KJV)

Many people who are consumed with their sin and rebellion against God will not go near the light because their sins will be exposed by the light.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105 (KJV)

“O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles.” Psalm 43:3

“For the word of God is quick [living], and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the Thoughts And Intents of The Heart.” Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)

God’s written Word, the Bible, is as a lamp, bearing light that illuminates the darkness God's Word illuminates the path of our lives. If we keep God's Word shining along the way, then we will be far less likely to trip. We will not be easily deceived. Because we are following the light, we will see what the light reveals in the path ahead of us. It is only when we turn away from the light before we have actually arrived at our destination of heaven, that something could spring up in the dark and trip us. Therefore, if we keep the light of God's truth shining brightly ahead of us, then we have a greater chance of avoiding deception.

We must all abide in union with the light, which is of our union with Christ. Jesus alone satisfied “the wrath of God” toward our sin for us when He shed His blood and died for us. He took the cup and drank our sin into himself at the Cross (cf. Luke 22:42-44). Thereby, we are forgiven and be made righteous in union with Him by faith. In Christ, we have been cleansed of ALL our sins, received His “Spirit of Truth,” and begin to truly see and understand. Knowing and trusting Christ leads us to everlasting life” while the

Darkness leads to lost souls to “everlasting destruction.

21Because that, when they [created mankind] knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart [with its mind] was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, Rom. 1:12-22

There are many causes for spiritual blindness, most being rooted in the lies of Satan’s Sin-spirit that is in our flesh, with temptation to pride and arrogance. There also is our willful ignorance, following blind guides, and our caring what others think. When you are spiritually blind you can’t see Christ because your foolish heart has become hardened, refusing to come to the knowledge of the truth.

“In whom the god of this world [Satan] hath Blinded The Minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” 2 Cor. 4:4

When one receives Christ as Savior and His life in them, they will begin to “see.” Jesus said this of the Power of The Words of God in the Scripture – the Bible.

“It is the spirit that quickeneth [makes alive]; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit, and They Are Life.” John 6:63 (KJV)

So long as one remains ‘spiritually blind’ they are ‘separated from God.’ They will continue to lie to themselves; thinking God’s not real, the Bible is false, hell is fake, I’m a good person, Jesus was just a man, etc. These thoughts are of a blind mind that is under the influence of the “sin [nature] in the flesh” (Rom. 8:3b) of all mankind.

Have you as a believer ever wondered how you can continuously share the gospel of Christ with someone and they seem agree with what you say, but they never change their way and trust in Christ? Spiritual blindness is the reason why believers can share Biblical truth with false Christians who still find excuses for their sin and rebellion. You can give them scripture after scripture, but they will find anything they can to keep and justify their rejection of the Lord’s love and salvation. Of course, the spiritually blind person needs to ultimately cry out to God, but pride stops them. Pride stops people from seeking the truth and opening their minds to the truth. Many people choose to remain ignorant.

People in false so-called religions such as Catholicism, Mormonism, Jehovah Witness, etc. are spiritually blinded by Satan’s religious “princes of this world” just as those who crucified Jesus (1Cor 2:7-8). They will reject clear as day passages written on the page but they do accept the doctrine of their tradition and cult organization with no problem. Jesus warns us of such “blind guides.”

“Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.” Matthew 15:14 (KJV)

Genuine believers have been given “the Spirit of truth” to cut against Satan’s lies. The world is in darkness while Jesus Christ is “the light.” This is why the world mainly persecutes Christians? The world and tyrannical governments mainly hate Christianity because it is under the rule of “the [false] god of this world” and the Christians allegiance is toward God. They do not have a problem with the false religions and liberal modernist Christians because Satan loves false religion. There is no better lie than one that is close to the truth but a near miss.

We all must lose the pride, humble ourself, and ‘seek the light, which is Jesus Christ.’ “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…” Acts 16:31 (KJV)

Below are some verses related to ‘Spiritual Blindness’ and its remedy in Christ.
